Yes doubtful that an equalizer will solve your problem Neil .. I suspect
that the noises are fairly wide band and probably from the external power
supply - do they go away on batteries ? best results are obtained by using
some sort of external A/D convertor keep the analogue mic away from the
internally generated rubbish! Something like the Edirol USB 25 is great
although not cheap !
Alternately use an external recorder of which there are many around -
transfer the file into Audacity as an MP3 or .wav for topping and tailing.
