At the risk of repeating myself and stating the obvious the decline in
2/70cm activity is largely due to the current licensing arrangements. Long
ago before the arrival of the class B G8 licence there was very little
activity on 2 or 70cm's the Class B license and 'black boxes' changed all
that but it requires a bit of effort to erect an effective beam for 2 or 70.
Now it's easy for new licensees M3's or 2E's to stick up a length of wire (&
call it a 5RV) and go on HF, why go to the trouble of putting up a beam for
VHF.
What's the answer? Bring back the Class B licence.
