At our site 600ft ASL on the Downs near Ashford in Kent it was very
windy indeed. The 4-section crankup towers for 70cm and 2m stayed wound
down most of the time and on Sunday morning we decided to take the top
2m beam off the stack, because we didn't think the stub mast would last
the day!

On 6m we had a 7el up 60ft on scaffold mast, this had us worried but it
came down with gin pole and block & tackle as easy as anything on Sunday
morning, despite a high cross-wind. Very pleased to make a QSO with CY0X
on CW near the start, but many of the spots on the cluster were
inaudible to us, and only two Scandinavian stations were worked.

My tip is - don't take it so seriously! The highlights of the weekend
for me were the sessions in the pub on Friday, getting outside a large
quantity of Shepherd Neame beer. Sell the idea of field day to you club
members as a social event as well as a radio one.
