In my opinion the criticism of RadCom has little justification.
God knows I'm not a supporter of many things done in the name of the RSGB
but RadCom has improved immensely in recent times through the obvious hard
work of those involved and a realisation that its format had become tired
and outdated.
It is unfair to rely on the same few people to produce articles and 'news'
for inclusion whilst bemoaning the views they put forward. If there are
disagreements with views in published letters / articles then there is
nothing to stop anyone presenting their own reasoned reply.
Further improvements will only be possible if input from a wider section of
the community is forthcoming allowing a more diverse representation of
views. Without this input, and by virtue of the need for content, RadCom
could easily be seen to be 'hijacked' as the mouth piece of those groups who
have little respect for fact in pursuit of their own legend.
Look back at the last couple of weeks on this reflector. A significant
number of the postings have been complaining about one thing or another or
shouting about their own achievements but conveying little helpful
information for those wishing to emulate those successes. Newcomers ask
'stupid' questions, that's how we all learn. It is when one stops asking
that one becomes stupid.
A couple of the respondents invited a constructive debate on what could be
done to enhance interest and participation in contests there was not one
reply.
Why not?
David
