[UK-CONTEST] VHF NFD

I wonder if Richard's analysis is based on the open section? The open
section has declined dramatically in recent years so therefore the number of
stations running 400w has declined and there is a clear correlation between
power and number of stations worked.

I have operated VHF NFD every year as long as I can remember and in the last
5 years with considerable success (G3SDC/P DeMontfort University ARS). We
usually run 100w but have tried the 25w section a few times with success but
the number of QSOs made is much lower. Believe me the 6dB gain of 100w over
25w takes a signal to a level where the casual operator in many cases can
hear the CQs adequately to make a call. The same is true of the gain of 400w
over 100w.

So my contention is that the overall number of QSOs can be correlated to the
reduction in the number of high power stations on the air.
