I am not sure either way. Initially I was concerned when I saw who it
had been developed for but then when you look at the debate on the 3830
Reflector these guys are at the top of their sport and obviously want to
make their stations and operating style as efficient and effective as
possible.
There have been lots of good technological developments over the years.
Jeez, it's only 16-18 years ago that I went to computer logging.
Computer power and the internet have advanced our ways of operating
considerably.
With Skimmer I suspect there are some unpleasant undertones but I need
to think these through before I commit to one or the other side.
We understand that the original idea was to assist high level SO2R
players since they have almost run out of options having done cut
numbers, J for 1, no RSTs etc etc but my concern is how other operators
will use it and if it will become almost mandatory to use it since doing
so would put you at a disadvantage.
I see using Remote stations probably more of a threat (says me just
starting to gets set up for that!) I have a feeling that whilst Skimmer
is high profile now because of its novelty, and good for those who can't
be bothered to improve their CW skills, it may peak and the f-ffade
away. I don't see that happening with Remote particularly since it is
now possible to use a Winkey and paddle at the remote end.
As I said at first, I am not sure either way, I need some more discussion.
