Hi Cris
I thing your suggestion would get one volunteer from Newbury RC. I well
remember Gus, G3LLK (still active) reminiscing about NFD in 1935, 10watts
and straight keys then lad, he would say but mind you we had it fully
automated even then, he said they had op's lined-up calling CQ TEST, when a
station called them another op would make the contest qso! I guess lots of
arm power were needing in those days.
I guess the moral of the story is even in those days they were trying to
find ways of making contests easier..hi
Just think if they had skimmer on board......

Looks like the technology has gone full circle - the computer has been
able to send our CW for years and the receive side is now taken care of
too.
Too late for this year's NFD, but how about incorporating a "No
computer" option for stations in the 2009 event, hence:-
1) All sending to be done with a key (only straight? or semi-
automatic? or keyer?)
2) All logging and checklogging to be done on paper, and
3) 1.5 (say) x existing points claimed for the extra effort and skill
involved
Submissions to be made as per existing arrangements ie keying (post-
contest) in Cabrillo and submitting via e-mail.
