OT - for the sake of completeness, would you believe that the RN has just
issued an invitation to tender for the supply of replacements for the
Admiralty Pattern Sextants that have been in service since 1942 and are now
getting "difficult to maintain"? I guess you have to allow for the fact
that under circumstances that we can only guess at, GPS may not do the job
nicely at all.
This got me wondering just how safe anything really is in extremis - what
about a fallback for the internet? Now that's an idea to savour!
