Callum, I'm not sure who this was aimed at (might have been me, but I
didn't use the phrase 'have you been CRB checked').
Since you refer to 'this scouter' I'm guessing you did mean me (would
have helped if you'd used my name or callsign), then I can assure you
I regret the total waste of money and everything else that modern
political correctness brings.

However, Andy was suggesting young people visit him and in this
context, I believe he should get a CRB check, through the RSGB possibly.
Believe it or not, even if the child's parent accompanies them, if the
child is left alone with you in a room, if only for a little while -
you need a CRB.

The RSGB require trainers to have a CRB before we can become a
registered instructor, even though that means there were three CRB'd
instructors in the hall during the course we ran this weekend.

If there was common sense running in scouting, then having to get a
CRB for each county I wish to help with would not be required.
Unfortunately, the world (well UK for sure) has gone PC / Nanny state
crazy.

It looks like you might yourself be a scouter or at least associated
with the movement, I see you did JOTA this year. Before we go down the
road of who is right and who's wrong (we could both be wrong), why not
run this question by some of your scouting friends and see what they
say.

Andy (and anyone else), the choice is yours, but I'd at least check
this out, be very pleased to discuss it with you if you come along to
the next club meeting (Christmas social).

Lastly, I'll ask you not to go name calling, either me or anyone else.
And please don't assume that because I raise a word of warning that
I'm an old fuddy-duddy, PC champion or afraid.
I may well be wrong in my belief about the requirement for a CRB, I am
certainly not afraid of anything I don't understand, just keen to
understand it. I don't have a pitch, it's not mine, it's everybodies
and if more people would like to come along and help get radio out
there or have any ideas on how we can do this, I'd really like to hear
from you.

And I'll drop this thread now, since I don't think that's what this
reflector is about (anyone is welcome to mail me direct to either put
me straight or discuss more).
