It's not that common (for normal mortals) but it does happen. I remember guesting at G3SJX some years ago in similar conditions, while running East Coast USA at well past 1000 on 7MHz, being called on our own frequency (it was all split in those days, of course) and told by one of the highly-respected denizens of the Sunday morning band that he couldn't hear any Ws, that we were all mad and we should b****r off and stop spoiling his net.
Guess not much has changed, really!
