Hello Ian,Ray and all guys....
Ian, Good stuff. Yes Marconi is very very popular in Europe and most of "big guys" are always on, even there is a myth of always failing equipment during Marconi...(I experienced few as OK2KYC hihi) When I moved to UK permanently in 2004 I found ir hard going on VHF where I enjoy the hobby the most and found that some of the rules actually works against increased activity are too conservative. I do love idea of Field Day being Filed day (in OK,DL you can operate from Fixed) but we were always doing everything field day style and it is fun despite bad WX etc.
I was coming on UKAC to give away points, work OK1RD and SK7MW in CW with small station, but now I cannot be bothered. May be it is time to look at some statistics and yell opinions towards VHFCC?

In 2006 March 144/432 - 31 entries on 2m and 24 on 70cm, 432 Trophy 23 entries, 38 entries in May 2006 144, 50MHztrophy 35 entries.... etc.
--
We accepted digital modes as part of HF progress, we put CW off the exams way forward and now we disabling facilities to do online skeds and work more DX which equals having more fun out of hobby... It does makes one think, doesn't it?
I am against Cluster and ON4KST abuse (you can see some self spots from EU stations, but none from UK station and if I remember correctly, reason for KST/DXC use was taken out was as per info:..... Our rule change was intended to clear up a local UK problem of overuse (abuse) of self-spotting by some of the "big guns" which was putting off newcomers and some of the old hands who felt it unethical... ß as per RSGB Comment
I could not find any self spots in 2007,6 by hardly any UK station and can not think of any newcomer who would be put off by use of facilities, that would allow him to actually work stuff with "newcomer" setups, but I can think off old hands which just didn't like the wind of change..
I set filter on cluster and pulled list of <DXCALL> = <SPOTTER> for few QSOs in 144 IARU 1 VHF Contest.... still, no G's, because there were hardly any G's on the band!!! :-)
I am speaking for my self and expressing just my own opinion and I would be grateful for any comments or point I might be missing.
PS: Just as highlight... 40 or less entries in UK is a shame.... In same time, in OK (size of London population wise) is 141 entries there!
73 guys and GL in WAE?
Jiri
