Ray,
You have the nail well and truly on the head. The biggest mistake the RSGB
made was in combining the contest committees and thus kill off the VHF
faction to a large extent.
RSGB spend a massive amount of time (and money?) on a two day HF convention
but cannot plan a VHF convention of any sort. All I get is there is not
enough demand. (Catch 22?)
I wonder if one reason for the reduction in the number of open section
entrants in VHF NFD is the rumour that a number of stations were(are)using
well in excess of 400W. Multiple antenna stacks each fed with kilowatt
amplifiers has been mooted. I don't know if it was (or is true) and
certainly I never heard of any disqualifications from such issues and I know
lots of inspections take place.
