Yes, it will work.  The only difference concerns the software linked
to the 7800.  The control address for the IC706 is 4E (hex) which is
78 (decimal).  For the IC7800 it is 6A (h) or 106 (d).

Those are default addresses. You can change the address on the IC7800
via one of the Set Mode menu options (CI-V Address).

The IC7800 supports rig-control using a standard serial cable (9-pin
connector) - just like many Yaesu rigs.  It's not essential to use
the CI-V unit.
