Yes, Phil -     quite correct -

on RTTY everybody works everybody, but QTCs can still only be exchanged 
between stations on different continents.

Another major difference between RTTY and the other modes is that EU 
stations can SEND, as well as receive QTCs, as opposed to receiving only on 
SSB and CW.  The limit is still 10 QTCs per station, though.

As for the other, 'play' is exactly the right word to use.  There are lots 
who participate in order to work the stations on, but with no desire (or 
hope!) of doing any good.  For them, QTCs hold no attraction.  But without 
them, of course, those taking it seriously would be stuffed!
