Hi folks,

Tony G3ZRJ near Hereford that's near the mid-Wales border)

Seems to have been another case of very selective propagation on Thursday night.
I've been keeping a check on where the leading stations are in this year's CCs, and it certainly appears that
being on the South coast of England seems to give a big advantage.

Obviously having high aerials also helps a lot, as G3BJ is not far from me bout gets nearly double my
contacts. I certainly didn't even hear 5B4AGN, but perhaps was not on the right QRG at the right time.

I'm no slouch as a CW op but with a "normal" station located where I am it is impossible to get anywhere near
the number of contacts that some of the "big boys" get.

Rig is a TS850S with cascaded 500Hz filters, pretty bombproof rig, aerial is an inverted vee doublet adjusted so no need for ATU on most of CW end of 80M center of aerial at 33 feet, ends at about 8 feet. I've a lot of wire buried in the garden for my HF6V and believe this helps my sig on both TX and RX with the doublet.

Just remember that it isn't necessarily operating skill that wins these events before some of you get too haughty about your scores !

Flak jacket in place, tin hat on head
Good luck to all in ARRL CW this weekend
