[UK-CONTEST] AFS SSB

I ended up on 410 and most of the last half hour was full of EU which was
just as well since the UK seemed to dry up. I think Hungary had a DX contest
running which boosted the numbers. A few dupes (not counted) and I was
encouraged to work the same M6 two or three times who was climbing up and
down the band giving away points. I don't think he knew what software to run
so I'll try and make contact with him to give him some assistance for his
next venture. He was clearly a keen bunny which is encouraging.

Started on 3649 and held that for two hours solid. I was operating from the
scout hut and the cold began to bite so when I moved to S&P, I literally ran
up and down the hut to try and heat up the muscles! Brrrr. After half an
hour of S&P, I notices SJJ had become inquisitive and followed me down the
band so I picked his frequency (3.747) at 4:30 and ran it to the end. Chris,
you should have kept it, the frequency settled right down and I suffered
next to no QRM during the last 20 minutes!

I am amazed that some radios can tolerate me within 1.2khz of them. They
ventured very close to me. Twice I asked different ops to QSY just half a
kHz and in both cases they did this kindly (thanks). Just amazed they can
chose to run this close though. Is it the radio - or is my TX so much better
than my RX..?

Anyway, good fun.

That could have gone a lot better !

Conditions seemed good, and found a good frequency about 3724 and ran the
first hour to 165 Qs. The GMs were strong from the start, and the run was
good. Then a couple of Scandinavian stations started up on the frequency,
and would not move. So I had to give in as they were well over S9. My next
frequency was OK, I think, until a German decided that he did not like
contests on 80 and kept telling me to go away !. So another move, and ended
up around 3686 squashed in between a couple of other stations. The general
background QRM level limited the QSO rate, and so ended up with 398 good
Q's. Nowhere near last year's score, although given clearer frequencies it
could have been much better. But good fun none the less.

Thanks for all the Qs

Don, G3BJ
