Points noted Ken. I agree about location. I tend to look at this from a 
personal perspective (don't we all?). Up here the problem is getting 
sufficiently distant from other stations to be able to hear anything on 
2m! Anyway you need not worry as I suspect that this very point will be 
near the top of Ray's agenda when he is in post. Incidentally I spent 
ages calling CQ towards IO70 and listening for stations down there in 
the last Backpackers but to no avail; yet again I failed to work that 
elusive square.

As to whether it is easier to set up an effective 2m or 160m contest 
station, I am not so sure about that. The 160 Club Calls contest in 
November would be good training for beginners though.
