In a UK newspaper day is the revelation that an anagram of THE MORSE  CODE  
is:-
 
"Here come dots"
 
Perhaps that is Samuel's comment on cut numbers?
 
Did he actually invent them I wonder, or were they already in use on the  
telegraph when he invented modern day morse?
