Yes, that would have taken it right up the limit, although its instructions
say it can cope with 2.7kw for short periods.
The fan heater was only on intermittently. It really did not take long to
warm up a smallish van to the required temp. Yes, it was a 1000MP. Oh, and
the light was only 40w, although we did have another 60w bulb dangled over
the generator to help smooth the loading and any refuelling that might have
been necessary in the dark.
The generator is excellent. Last year we measured our power consumption and
it was 6.6kwh over 25 hours. We didn't measure it this year, but it would
have been higher with the heater. The generator used less than 15 litres of
diesel all weekend, which means it runs easily overnight on one tank. I am
fortunate to get free, red diesel from my grandparents-in-law ! Although
the generator is rather noisy, it's about 150 feet from the operating
position and we add some shielding around it. RF-wise it's fantastic. We
can detect no noise on any band. It's the best eBay item that I've ever
bought, although there have not been too many.

An excellent write-up. I don't know if we'd have had the nerve to trust our
genny as much as you did yours!.
Looking at your write up it seems you cut it pretty fine by using that
heater! By my reckoning it works out as follows.
Power available 2500 watts
Less Power consumed in heating ..2000Watts
Less lighting say 60W
Less FT1000(mp?) AC power in 235W for 100W out
Less Computer power ..say 40W
That left you with a headroom of 165 Watts .. It must be a good genny.

Still, the 2kw fan heater in a small camper van quickly turned it in to a
sauna !

It's a Chinese
2.5kw (red) diesel version with a battery start. I'd changed the oil the
weekend previously and fired it up. It only gets used once a year, but
(touch wood) always starts first time and runs smoothly throughout the
contest.
