Homeplug spec devices are slightly different in that they are only
active when they are transmitting data, apart from a short handshake
ever second or so - which causes a clicking noise similar to an
electric fence.
The Comtrend devices supplied by BT for their BT Vision product are
made to the alternate UPA specification - and are 200Mbs and use the
whole HF spectrum. These transmit continuously, 24/7, regardless of
whether any data is being passed. They are notched inside the amateur
bands but you cannot miss the racket they make outside the amateur
bands - we demonstrated a pair at our club the other month. They are
DREADFUL...
