Apology unnecessary. Your interest in contesting and in particular CW
contesting, is great news. Get fun out of it. That's why we do it. In
time you'll be racing along at 30 wpm, ever mindful of the right
circumstances in which to reduce your speed.
You are right of course. Many contest participants are non combatant. They
are there for other reasons. Good for them, so long as they are having fun
and they don't forget others are competing.
