I already have a piece of equipment that allows me to talk worldwide 
without a radio.  It's light, can travel with me almost everywhere and 
fits in my pocket.  It neither needs a wired connection or an external 
antenna.  It's called a mobile phone.

Personally, I'd feel like a bit of a pillock using callsigns and Q 
procedures when talking on the phone, but it takes all sorts I suppose.
