Amongst all this, let's not forget that the unique thing about 
amateur radio is that our licences (foundation excepted but that's 
a separate discussion) permit us to use transmitters which have 
not been tested or type approved by anyone else. No-one else gets 
to do this legally.

That's it.

It's about transmitting radio waves.
