If you're from GI, nobody in continental Eu *or* the US understands you 
saying '8' unless you are very careful in how you pronounce it.  Guess 
GMs have the same problem.

Using Russian phonetics works a treat with Russian speaking operators, 
worth learning the phonetics of your callsign in Russian in my book 
(Galina Ivan Noll Roman Tamara Nikolai) but can leave you scratching 
your head if they assume you really can speak Russian can come back with 
fast "pyatch dyevits adyeem chtirye vosim".
