The benefit of serials (although some see it as a
disadvantage) is that they make every exchange unique.
You are forced to listen - the software can't pre-fill
it for you.

If the IOTA exchange is to be made shorter, why not
drop the bit of the exchange that never changes, 
doesn't need to be copied, and has no apparent
meaning?
