Yes but your log might get disqualified - this has happened.

Read the rules of the contest. If it says RS(T) is part of the exchange 
then, whether you like it or not, that is what you must send.

If someone sends me just a serial in a contest which requires RS(T), 
then I query it. Slows him down, unfortunately it slows me down as well 
but I know I have complied with the contest rule.
