Two things at work here I think.
1. The power differential can be most significant. Even in this event
many people just CQ'd in my face. Most were MP ( 20w), some were QRP(5w)
but none were VLP ( 1w). So that's the first and most obvious facet, but....
2. Some of the MP and QRP stations above were cracking signals, and I
believe should have heard me if not Q5. A significant percentage of
these non-responders, repeated their CQs in a matter of milliseconds and
were clearly not listening properly. Now it may well be that some of
these had high noise levels, and knew it was a waste of time to persist,
but I suspect some at least couldn't be bothered. This is by no means
exclusive to QRPers of course and I consistently get the same thing when
running 400w, because after all the ratio of 5000w ( which we know that
some Eu stations DO run- no calls no pack drill) to 400w is in the order
of 10dB or more which is almost as much as the ratio of an MP to a VLP
station this weekend.
Keep on doing it.
