Hello UK Contesters (and specifically Hi to Chris, GM3WOJ)

I have to say that I feel insulted by the suggestion that I may not have
truly represented the feelings of the RSGB CC. As Secretary it is my job to
report impassionately, when required, on Committee proceedings and I have
done so conscientiously for many years.

Not for me the freedom to claim that 500Qs in the leader's log means that
600-700 stations worldwide were interested, even though the fact that both
CW and SSB modes were involved would tend to halve that figure! I can only
note, for example, that this year one GM (and he by no means the leader)
claims to have received serial number 001 from over 20% of his contacts
(excluding all QSOs made in the first hour). These QSOs are clearly not
with stations who are interested in the contest ... they are probably ops
who are pleased to work a new country on a band that has been effectively
dead for three years or who just turn up to give out a few points, as most
of us do in the smaller overseas events! Valid QSOs, sure; potential
entrants ... I don't think so!

Everyone has the right to make their comment, whether they enter the contest
or (like myself and at least one prominent recent contributor to this
reflector) choose not to; but it is very wearing to find one's personal
integrity under attack without justification. UK Contesters need to bear in
mind that members of the Contest Committee are volunteers who give up their
time without any recompense.

Chris - in connection with your kind offer to take over the running of the
event, I have forwarded you mail to the Chairman ... it may well be that,
if the hoped-for improvement in participation in 2011 does not occur, you
may prove to be the salvation of the contest.

Vy 73
