Thank you for that, clearly my inexperience shows through.

Bryn, you have made a lifestyle choice to live where you do and that's
your prerogative, I don't think of it as an unfair advantage. Don't
misrepresent my statement.
You and I are very aware that its a whole lot easier under normal
conditions for you to work PA and Dl than it is for most of the rest of
the UK.
With that (fair) advantage under normal conditions you have a whole
layer of additional squares and stations that you can work that others
in the North / West/ South West of the UK cant. That is not an opinion
its a fact.
Going back to your original statement about the purpose of contesting,
perhaps some contests are there for another reason?
VHF DXing and contesting in the UK was at an all time low just a few
years ago. The VHFCC set up the UKAC contests and they have been
successful in promoting just what can be done on VHF and above. The
improvements in individual scores has been remarkable and a real success
story. Adjusting the scoring system to improve participation is more
important than boosting your ego (or mine).
The real benefit of this contest is to allow the lesser experienced VHF
contesters the opportunity to see improvement in their performance and
thus encourage them to improve their stations and skills.
When you and I are pushing daises up... who will be taking part in
contests and working VHF DX - let me spell it out to you, the ones being
encouraged by the UKAC!

No it would not. Someone living in GI or the north of GM would be
disadvantaged by that as he would be further from the centre of
population and activity than someone living in G.
That is one reason why its difficult to make a fair scoring system, and
that is why your simplistic view of the rule changes are wrong.
That is why the changes made were the right thing to do.
