I'm running an old Dell Latitude D600.....

Cost = FOC, save for the price of a used HDD to revive it.

1.4GHz Centrino, 256MB RAM. Supposedly designed for Windows XP 
(according to the sticker) but much happier running Windows 2000 Pro.

An added bonus, it has a serial port.... I've never managed to hit 100% 
reliability with USB-Serial converters, maybe it's the way I set them up!

Total cost? £25...

If thats all  you need it for, then I'd suggest having a look round the 
Junk tables at your nearest rally!
