[UK-CONTEST] SO or is it SO

Contest organisers are reacting to the growing trend over recent years
towards use of assistance, i.e. DX Cluster, further encouraged recently by
RBN. Reverse logic: instead of Assistance being the exception to the rule it
is nowadays non-Assisted that is the minority. When CQWW asks: "Were you
indeed non-Assisted?" some two-thirds reply that they were Assisted, sorry
for the mistake. A number of disqualifications have resulted. Minor steps
might help: for example set the Cabrillo default to Assisted so that
non-Assisteds have to edit the change, rather than the other way around.

Maybe we could rename 'Single Operator' as 'Single Operator Classic', to
more clearly define this category as non-Assisted. Note that an in-shack
Skimmer is NOT outside assistance - it is just clever technology. For
contests which do not differentiate then Assisted is the norm nowadays. In
many cases Assistance it does not give competitive advantage. It's often
referred to as 'Single Operator Distracted'. So, it's really about
enjoyment, within the rules: the current default (non-Assisted) bans use of
tools which add to the fun for many!

Ummm, thats not good info Clive, wish you posted this earlier!!! I put in a
serious effort for nothing then.
Why o why not state this in the rules, nothing what so ever on rbn skimmer
use.
No point in sending in my log now I guess!!
Nearly 800 QSO's unassisted category or so i thought....not happy.
