Although I enjoy 80CC there are a few irritations that could be addressed.
For Data RTTY is fine but PSK 31 is a problem in that anywhere near 100W is
difficult to use without overdriving which wrecks any chance of reception
for everybody. My solution is for 10W max to be used for PSK (and possibly
RTTY as well).
For CW there is plenty of frequency space and it includes a QRS corral. The
session issatisfactory most of the time apart from clickers etc. I have
found 10W is entirely adequate for most 80CC contacts and adoption of 10W by
all would reduce any transmission problems.
For SSB there is a the big problem that warming up of a frequency is common.
This is actually necessary if you want to run a frequency that allows a
higher score rate than purely S&P. The result is that everyone is penalised
that does not want to spend half an hour or more before the contest calling
CQ or test! I therefore suggest changing these sessions into SPRINTS. The
playing field is levelled, no warming of the frequency is needed and some
extra skills are required. You might also make 10W maximum for all modes
thereby giving participants of every license class equal standing.
I feel any of the extra complications suggested recently may be
counterproductive. My suggestions are therefore:
1. Reduce PSK and perhaps all modes to 10W.
2. Make the SSB session a SPRINT.
