Dave G3TBK is bang on with this:
...."In trying to separate "national" and "regional" contest groups from
traditional local clubs it appears the Cttee have thrown out the baby along
with the bath water."
The 80m CCs have been a great success in generating contesting ACTIVITY.
On-the-air activity and operating fun are their primary purposes. The 80m CC
have succeeded beyond all expectations in these respects. Well done to the
HFCC for coming up with the original idea.
Why on earth is there a need for imposing these AFS Contest type
restrictions? If a group of pals either locally or nationally, or even
internationally, want to take part in the 80m CCs under the banner of
whatever formal club or informal grouping they wish, then so be it. Let them
just get on the air, have fun making the contacts and then submit a log
under any club or grouping name they wish, be it an RSGB Affiliated Society
or not.
AFS type restrictions are OK for the formal once-a-year AFS Contests, but
they are not appropriate for the much more frequent and deliberately less
formal, but highly successful, 80m CCs!
