[UK-CONTEST] CQ WW 160M CW

I used G3P in the CQWW 160 at the weekend, and received many G3P? responses
when I was S&P. I don't believe the question was 'have I received G3P
correctly' but 'where is the rest of the call'. North Americans seemed more
surprised than Europeans. As Peter said there wasn't an issue when running.
For me the biggest win with the short call was not feeling guilty dropping
it in quickly as the calling from the masses ended in a pile-up - this was
very productive. The down side was on a number of occasions when tired and
using a keyer I was part way through sending the W of G3WPH before realizing
what was happening.
Presumably there were other gains as I had 6% more QSOs this year than last
even though I missed a few hours of prime time. On the other hand
multipliers were down, states/provinces from 47 to 40 and countries from 75
to 73. I was surprised when I analysed the results because during the
contest I thought North America was going well. The analysis shows that
whilst I had more N.A. QSOs this year, and conditions were great to the
South West States, the North West and most Canada didn't open up. What did
anybody else find?

It may be the specific call. I was warned by Tree N6TR (in connection
with the SP Challenge) that I might find my standard call more effective
than M5O, but this was not borne out over the weekend, when I made a
couple of hundred more QSOs than the previous year. The main advantage
I think was in running, when people have more chance of getting the call
right and from a marketing viewpoint, you can get your call aired more
times per minute! Only once or twice in S&P did I have a query, but I
usually gave the call twice when calling. So, overall I'm happy with
mine, but interesting to hear your experience!

I did do a double take when called by a couple of the G3 + 1 short
calls, so we both avoid that issue!
