John,

Our "logger" was entering QSOs in Minos real-time so would detect
possible dupes immediately. But for S&P on 6m & 4m, we tried
displaying an old-fashioned "Last Letter Check-Sheet" (remember those
?) on another PC screen, using data grabbed from Minos. Seemed to
work, so long as the font was turned up big enough for tired eyes.

I'm sure I'm preaching to the converted but ..........
One of the best things about computer logging is instant dupe
checking. The
paper log followed by computer log negates this. How did you fare
with
 search and pounce ?
One of the worst things about computer logging is an inability to
adapt to
circumstances. When the required exchange is a locator, if a
postcode is
entered - "computer say no". That's when a bit of paper comes in
handy.

 Couldn't resist it ....
We've just operated in the 50MHz Trophy and three bands in VHF NFD
with both PC-logging and "Pen & Paper" logging. Our operators on the
mic/key wrote up the paper log, and a seperate "Logger" sat in front
of a laptop with external screen & keyboard. Our guys seemed happy
with this method, and it helped clear up some errors prior to
sending
 in the 50MHz Trophy entry.
Only other problem we had was when we turned our "clean" 4m yagi
away from the Essex direction, and when we turned it back, G0VHF/p
had nicked "our" frequency ! Serves you right.....
 (All tongue-in-cheek of course.)

I blame computer logging and slow typing. The qualification for
 being a
radio amateur should include touch typing at 25wpm!
