Well I must be misinterpreting General rule 7a which sez "Errors in
sending / receiving are penalised by the loss of all points for the QSO."

I sed before that I agree with the Busted callsign total penalty; that is
a checkable error post-contest - serial numbers received are not.

Yes of course they should be accurate, but penalised fairly for
innacuracies; not have their QSOs blasted out of the very same water the
herring live in.

Agreed!  Which neatly returns us to the scale of the penalty.
