[UK-CONTEST] 80m CCs : An ideal opportunity to drop PSK ... for good!

80 CC contesters,

There have been two suggestions recently on the reflector that I should comment on :-

The use of PSK31 in the 80m CC Data series:- I agree with Phil et al. that PSK31 is a useful data mode with low power and low band width requirements, BUT it is NOT a contest mode (and neither is BPSK63) and should thus the 80m CC data events should revert to 45.45Baud RTTY only. I say this as an avid Data mode operator, within and outside of contests. PSK31 is a recognised data mode and has its avid users, but my own personal opinion (and not as BARTG Awards Manager) it should be dropped from the 80m CC events.

Secondly, the spread of 'Club' contestants over broad areas:- Surely a local club consists mainly of LOCAL members with a few who are more distant, but when it comes to CLUB contests there should be a distance limit for club members to contribute to scoring, so the 80m CC events should include say a 25km from the normal club meeting place as qualification, similar to AFS. This way contributions from far flung members would be excluded if they operated outside this circle. They could always join a more local club to them and then assist that clubs efforts in such contests.

Chris
