The first bit... psk... although I use it, I've not found it to be a contest
friendly mode so have not used it as such... in fact, having forgotten morse
I only use ssb in contests...
As for bit 2...
I have to agree with the suggestion of a 25km limit. As a club, Kdars is a
bit spread out membership wise but everyone falls within that 25k remit. I
would think it was 'taking the piss' if we decided to set up a monster
station on the North Yorkshire Moors and say it was local to us and a club
level event. I'm not against big multi op stations per se but only if they
follow the spirit of the contest. The 80m CC's were meant to be a fun thing
and not the serious full on contest, designed to give newcomers the
contesting feel. We were discussing contesting at the club today and a few
people were of the opinion that they needed xyz kit, massive amps and a huge
hill to work it. I'm trying my best to change their minds, in fact pointing
out that it isn't really a long enough contest to set up a full on station
as you would for field day.
I'm trying to get people to actually use the club station for the CC's, we
have a great site, big antennas and no house within 1km as the crow flies
and the nearest village is 2 miles away...., needless to say, no background
noise from anywhere.... but people still think it isn't enough to even take
part, let alone 'stand a chance'. I point out that if I can get into the
180-200 contact mark from home, think what the club station could do. All
they hear are the huge stations and they seem to be scared off, not
realising that they are actually in a better position than most with the
club site. I also would run it for 'fun' rather than trying to get top score
so that newcomers could operate for say 15 mins and see how they got on...
Maybe a section for newbies to score more or actual club stations at the
club meeting place to get a better multiplier. That might encourage club
stations to enter as themselves, rather than xyz contest group of 'no fixed
abode'..
My bit.... ta for listening to me ramble.
