Hello All
Well, that was fun. The South Wales weather forecast was bad but it was also wrong and we didnt get any predicted thunder, lightning or torrential rain.
As for radio propagation, 28MHz wasn't anywhere near as good as 2010 but interestingly we did get a bit of double hop into the USA. The other bands were in fairly good shape but the high QRN levels on 1.8MHz made the going there very tough.
We rang the changes this year. We normally "do" the Restricted Section but this time in the week leading up to NFD we thought to have a go in the Open Section. There are just three of us, so rather than attempting to erect beams we "simply" used our normal 270ft doublet but this time up at 60ft. If we do the same section next year we will try and be a little more ambitious with our antennas.
Our shack was an extralong wheelbase van and our power came from a little Honda 1.0i generator.
As for any NFD rule changes ..I really would like to see us using the same scoring system as the rest of Europe.
But whatever happens , we'll be back next year. 73 Ian G3WVG
ps .. Thanks to Roger (G4BVY) our "inspector" who manfully waded through wet grass and cow dung to come and see us. He was very welcome but unfortunately he was a victim of our only technical failure ...The stove! so we couldn't even make him a cup of tea.
