Gerry G3JJG died in the early hours of this morning, 21st June. He had been
unwell for some months and had been in and out of hospital several times of
late.

He wrote a number of articles for the RSGB Bulletin in and aound the 1960s
mainly related to transmitters. The Princess design was indeed his.
Earlier, in the 1961 edition of the RSGB Handbook is his design for a
transmitter with full break-in faciliies for 10m, 15m and 20m with QQV06-40A
in the PA. As Chris G3SJJ wrote, Gerry's careful design and immaculate
metalwork was a reflection of his character.

I first met him in 1977 when I moved to Cheltenham from Sussex and we became
good friends. However we had known of each other earlier because at one
time we had both worked for the same firm, Redifon Communications - he as
head of test at the Wandsworth factory and me as a young design engineer at
the Crawley "Comms Lab".

In recent years we lived some 300 yards apart in Cheltenham which made life
quite "interesting" when we were both working on the same band, especially
during CW contests on which we were both keen.

He will be much missed in Cheltenham and elsewhere.

Derek G3NKS
Chairman
Cheltenham Amateur Radio Association
