Hi,
Tuesdays event was relatively poor from here. There was very little activity
from Europe beaming this way. Possibly due to an aurora with everyone
beaming towards Scandinavia in the Nordic AC. I did hear OZ1ALS in JO44, but
quite weak, 4 by 1, no contact ensuing. 18 squares worked, 12 in the UK.
That's about average for me for the UK on a Tuesday,
as most of the UK is to my NW and I'm screened in that direction by a hill.
Europe was way down.
Well sited northern stations can be worked if conditions are favourable,
G4FZN/p IO94 was a surprise, but
home stations under flat conditions, I just don't hear them. All this
activity in
IO83 is not heard here apart from one or two regulars.
A map of my contacts is here

The problen of generating interest in weekend contests is a continuing
one. There are several reasons, some already mentioned, taking time out of a
precious weekend being the main one.
The major VHF/UHF
contests involve large numbers of European stations, many of which are out
of reach of the avareage UK station. Hence one of the reasons for the
increase in UKAC UK activity. Historically many of these stations do not
participate at weekends because there's very little to work in the UK.
Because there's
little to work, no one comes on, catch 22. It's a pity at least some
stations don't give the weekends a try. Many of the big EU stations are
workable and are only too glad to get the points. Once the realisation that
these can be worked sinks in, it may be the spark to get people active other
than Tuesady.
Personally I think a small
percentage of the activity on Tuesdays will transfer to the weekends, maybe
only in the 6 hours sections, or people will go out with the regular
club/groups who go portable most contests. Any increase in contesters is
welcome, and it's
going to be slow steady growth, rather than the explosion of Tuesday
evenings.
