[UK-CONTEST] Aircraft Reflection

Hello Ray

Thanks for putting the information on your web pages - it's certainly
interesting and it prompts me to ask a couple of questions:-

It's too early in the day for me to delve into spherical geometry. Is it
reasonable to assume that a plane at say 40,000ft at your mid point is
approximately at zero degrees elevation, for both parties ? It occurs to me
that for stations located behind a hill ('Morning Bob!), the reflection
technique could still be useful, but with shorter paths, so long as the
plane is not behind the obstruction.

Could you say a little bit more about equipment requirements? I see that on
70cms you have about 100w and 2 yagis. How is OZ1FF equipped? Could you
conclude that a more basic station (say 50w to a single yagi) would struggle
to make effective use of aircraft scatter ?

Regards

Subject: [UK-CONTEST] Aircraft Reflection

Hi all,
Following my talk at last years convention and on-air activities, I get
regular requests for more information on the use of aircraft reflection as a
means of nabbing some nice distant contacts under flat tropo conditions and
contests on UHF and Microwave bands.
Much of the content from the memory stick is retained for club talks I do
but aircraft reflection appears to be to the most popular personal request.
I have therefore added a page to my website on the operational side of the
subject and trust those interested will find it useful.
