Folks,
Spiderbeam are very clear about how their jubilee clips should be used to
prevent slippage, ie fitted to the bottom of the upper pole at the top side
of each joint, and NOT overtightened. The heatshrink used is *not* there to
prevent damage to the fibre glass but to hold in place a strip of soft
rubber which sits on the inside of the jubilee clip. This both cushions the
clip and enables it to grip with very little force being exerted on the
pole. If you can't find a suitable alternative you can buy the rubber strip
direct from Spiderbeam.
They also supply webbing guy belts which slide down the pole to fit snuggly
at specific points; points which I assume they've worked out are the optimum
for each pole to support without undue strain. I've had no problems on
either front.....
