[UK-CONTEST] EuSprint CW

Hi Stewart,

Yesterday at 5.45pm I had just finished the Contesting Q+A session with Mark
M0DXR at the RSGB Convention. I had my laptop with me, loaded with most
logging programmes known to man, old presentations, Cabrillo examples,
contest calendars etc. that might have come in useful if anyone came along
with a related question. As it turned out, the first Q+A session was more of
an open forum with experienced contesters, where the peculiarities /
popularity of the various Sprints were discussed, along with the reasons for
and necessity of those '59' signal reports in HF contests. All of the usual
UK-Contest fayre, you might say.

I'd also brought along my FT817, running from batteries, and the
oft-maligned Miracle Whip antenna. It might have been useful to listen to
the SAC SSB contest, or the EU Sprint if needed. As folks made their way
out of the room, I switched on the FT817, immediately heard Fabian DJ1YFK
calling CQ in the EUSprint on 20m and worked him first call. I worked a few
more on 20m, even getting a call when my previous QSO partner had
relinquished the frequency to me. Not bad for literally a few watts, a metre
long antenna, used inside a substantial building complex. I had a very small
audience for this unplanned 'contest demo.' Later on I packed up, returned
to my room, and found you and a few others on 40m. We were in the
restaurant having dinner by the time everyone was on 80m I guess.

It'll be my worst score ever, but one of the more memorable and fun entries
nevertheless. See you in the next one, hopefully with a better signal!

73,

Lee G0MTN
