I have used 80lb waxed fishing line, lasts years; but expensive at about £17 for 50m, and hard to come by. However, Polyesterlina 1.4mm fishing line by Fladen Fishing: www. Fladenfishing.se is very strong, durable, UV resistant. £9 for 95m roll. There is a thinner one too. Just a bit of a hazard when mowing the lawn and you don't see it, whips the glasses and hat off! Supports my 80m dipole and 40/20m dipoles and multi-band vertical in 100+mph winds. It's the wires that fatigue and break at over 100 mph most winters not the Polyesterlina.

Subject: [UK-CONTEST] Fishing line as support
Fellow contesters
The XYL is geting fed-up with all the ropes (amongst other things!) at QTH
G4LMW.
So, I plan to replace the support ropes for various dipoles (topband, 80M,
40M) wth fishing line.
My question is - what breaking strain would be advisable? Obviously, a lower
strain would be more invisible, but how low do I dare go?
Regards
Rob, G4LMW
