For standby use at home I have the Evopower LDG6000S from GenPower. It's
4.5kW continuous. This was the sort used by the 5 star dxers on their trip
about three years ago and it was on their recommendations that I bought it.
They had several which ran continuously for 4 weeks!

It runs the transceiver, linear, etc very nicely. It's diesel with a good
sized tank (16 litres). Consumption up to 2 litres/hr according to load. It
has noise silencing as well as electric start and is on wheels although they
are quite small and wouldn't be much good in a muddy field.

Very good value for money.

As for fuelling petrol gennys when running, yes we've all done it, but I
lost one of my former pupils due to someone dousing the garden bonfire with
petrol. The vapour ignited flashing back to the outside loo at the bottom of
the garden where Gary was. He died of his injuries!

On the other hand I remember at the filling station where I worked one of
the girls got a blow back from a car tank and was literally soaked in
petrol. She removed her overall which was quite revealing for a lad of my
tender years and then decided to have a fag! Absolutely no problems at all!
