[UK-CONTEST] Generators

Hello,

I may have missed it but the problem is static electricity and here is what pilots do to get round the problem and I've used it for NFD etc too. Petrol on its own needs a flame or spark to set it off so I will make the rash assumption tht anyone reading this will keep naked lights away from fuel vapour and liquid.

If you use metal containers make a bright metal surface where you can attach a crock clip which has a wire bonded to the frame of the generator. By attaching this before pouring, there is no potential difference and no possibility of a spark. With plastic containers, the same hold good but the bonding is not so easy. All I have ever done is to touch the container on the metal work and for this reason did not use plastic ones. However this does not come so highly recommended as the former technique.

The law precludes all of this as we are now only allowed two 5 Litre containers each in our cars and at home. Modern jerry cans have powder coatings which will ultimately fall off. The covering inside the container will then break up and block filters. You can strain this out with a filter funnel or if you have time and inclination, pour your fuel through a chamois leather but this does equate to watching "slow drying paint" dry.

In spite of the above, most of us manage to blunder through all the dangers and remain unscathed. I for one will not be looking to see your smoke signals so please resist the temptation to supply then!!
