[UK-CONTEST] HF CW Field Day / G0CKV

Don - RSGB and its activities stands and falls with its volunteers. We would
be nowhere without the volunteers. I can quote from en email I sent to Ed on
an entirely different matter early in March:

"Let me also say that I hope you and your colleagues are not too turned off
by some of those negative comments that occasionally appear on the
reflectors. I believe we have a fairly large silent majority who are very
appreciative of the effort you and your colleagues devote to the hobby so
keep smiling pls."

I stand by that.

At the same time I am very angry with the process with this year's NFD
rules. The March rules were called the 'Definitive Rules'. There were
several aspects of those rules that I didn't like but I took them as written
and started to prepare with those rules. While I was wasting my time the
committee entertained proposals for changes without telling us. They wasted
my time and others. I understand some have also wasted money.

The best support I can give to the Contest Committee at this stage is to
constructively try to explain 1) why I think that the April version of the
rules are even worse against the very yardstick they seem to have used when
the April changes were made, 2) how I think they could just about recover
from this year's mess and 3) how I think they could avoid falling into such
a deep hole in the future.

As a PS to Chris's posting, while I was Contest Cttee chairman we did indeed
advertise in RadCom on more than one opccasion for certain specific roles
which needed to be filled. Needless to say, the response was nil.
Which is why we had to resort to the tried and tested method of twisting
arms (referred to disparagingly by some as the "old boys network"). RSGB
certainly has a policy of advertising Committee Chair vacancies (which we
also did when I stepped aside, again to no avail).
