[UK-CONTEST] Why do UK stations not beam to OZ in UKAC ?

First thing to know is that I have 150KM of land between myself and the
Norfolk coast so I do not get any of the over sea path enhancement that come
with being located much nearer the coast. So for Scandinavia down to
Northern France I have a lot of land in the way. The same applies to mid
France to Portugal about 150KM of land before the sea is reached.

Using exactly the same kit but from my local club's field site the
enhancement of this site compared to home QTH is at least 20dB. For instance
GB3VHF beacon is over 20dB stronger yet it is -3dB further away. From the
field site flat condition range to a reasonably sited DX station is
700-750KM and to a exceptionally sited DX station 800 to 850KM. The
difference: home QTH is 80m ASL in a valley while the field site is 240m ASL
with a perfect take off in all directions.

I could run in the QRP class from the field site and have similar TX
performance to my home QTH running full power. Yet on receive the field site
is still 20dB better.

David,

I've rising ground up to 100m to my NW, much of where the UK is, but still
work into GD,GI & GM. It's a struggle sometimes, but VHF is mostly, you're
not going to get 59 QSO's 90% of the time.

BTW I can hear OZ1ALS now anywhere between 41 to 55 with AS enhancement.
