[UK-CONTEST] NFD

I did count around 33 altogether Cris, but certainly well down on last
year's entries. My feeling is that the restricted section is now way
too tightly defined for such a small pool of entrants. I certainly
found little commonality possible with the /P station I put together for
9H3ET in BERU (restricted section) back in March, which just called for
single elements antennas . My original thought was to re-use as much of
that as possible for NFD, but aerial wise this just wasn't possible. If
as much as is allowed can be easily rigged single-handed in 3 or 4
hours, it seems reasonable that even the smallest local club should have
a bit more scope.

The other issue is the disparity between the rule sets for NFD and the
DARC version which is now many times bigger (I counted 3 times as many
DL portables), and so entering both versions of the event with any
competitive stance is just about impossible.

My big mistake (again!) was not spending more time on 10/15m on Saturday
afternoon, thinking all day was available on Sunday, but conditions
deteriorated fast towards the end and even 40m was more productive for
much of the time.

Major highlights were finding old mates VE3ZI, VK2BJ, ZL2iFB, K3ZO, C4Z
and of course your good self - thanks for all the calls Cris!

Never having done more than a short stint at any NFD before, I was
surprised at how soon everyone deserted 160 and 80m, which would have
been productive at least until daylight. Feeling my way in, I got off
to a pitifully slow start and my numbers were soon less than half those
of several others. I'd felt that a target of 1000 QSOs ought to be
achievable and made this by 12.00, leaving (I thought) some time to play
on 10m. Just two QSOs, A6 and LU, having left 9J2BO "until later", by
which time there was no sign . . .
